This is a widely cultivated East Asian species with palmately trilobed or trifoliate leaves (confusingly called "Boston-ivy"). Colls. from FAYE (KY), JEFF (MM for WKY) and perhaps elsewhere suggest locally naturalization in urban areas, but it does not seem to be spreading through the landscape. Across North America, it is concentrated in urban and suburban areas from Boston to Chicago (K), and it may be spreading into the southeast (W). Plants do produce viable seed, which can germinate faster than quinquefolia (Van Clef & Stiles 2001).
