This weedy annual is widespread in warmer regions of southeastern states, especially on medium-acid soils. Recognition of the genus Serinia for this species (and wrightii) has not been followed in recent treatments (FNA 19, W), though pappus is lacking and 2n = 8 (versus multiples of 5 in most other Krigia).
