This southeastern species is largely restricted to the Gulf Coastal Plain, and it is unknown in Mo. or Tenn. There is a remarkably disjunct coll. made by a student (Byrne #4) in 1970 from a "15 feet tree 1/2 mile from Hickman"--probably on or near the loess bluffs along the Mississippi Rv. in FULT (KY). This coll. is verified, but plants have not been relocated. The species was also reported by Defries (1880) from the Tradewater Rv. region (perhaps CRIT).
