Verbenaceae Verbena urticifolia
Verbena urticifolia L.
ALI: no HAB: f-7,8,4,6, n/a, D, 4 ABU: g10, s10, -2
This is a widespread eastern species on damp fertile soils. It is perennial, but perhaps short-lived (Cr). All plants in Ky. are probably the typical variety. Many colls. have hairy leaves, but none appear to be velutinous as in var. leiocarpa Perry & Fern. Hybrids are expected with hastata and others (F, Cr); most currently defined eastern species of Verbena contain diploids (2n = 14).
