This attractive perennial weed (common toadflax or "butter-and-eggs") is widespread in temperate North America. In Ky. it established early after settlement (Short et al. 1833). In 1914, Gm noted: "most frequently observed on waste ground and commons around towns." It is now widely scattered across farmed regions. A related species, L.. maroccana Hook. f. has been recently found in JEFF, as a nursery waif (P. Haragan, pers. comm.). This is more showy plant, usually with purple flowers, and widely distributed for ornamental use.
