This potential horticultural weed is considered to consist of tetraploids (2n = 32) or octoploids (2n = 64) derived from diploid hirsuta or perhaps hybrids with impatiens or other diploid species; provenance, taxonomy and nomenclature remain uncertain (W, FNA 7; Marhold et al. 2016). For Ky. there have been reported colls. from CAMP (KNK), ELLI (B) and FAYE (CM), but these all need further study to make determinations.
