Limnanthaceae Floerkea proserpinacoides
Floerkea proserpinacoides Willd.
ALI: no HAB: 4,7,5,1?, ::::, E, 1 ABU: g8, s5, -4
This curious little winter-annual forms a monotypic genus that is known from woodlands of humid cool temperate regions in both eastern and western North America; 2n = 10 (FNA 7, K). In Ky. it is locally common in the northern Bluegrass and, upstream, on the Manchester Islands in the Ohio Rv. Further south, colls. were also made during the 1830s by C.W. Short and R. Peter in "Warfield's woods" near Winchester Road in Lexington, FAYE (MICH, PH, KY-Agr.). Like other Limnanthaceae, Floerkea produces diverse glucosinolates, which impart a mustard-like flavor to the plant; there have been several reports of human edibility (Agerbirk et al. 2022).
