Poaceae <Poeae> Poa <Stenopoa> nemoralis
Poa nemoralis L.
ALI: EU HAB: n/a, n/a, n/a, 3 ABU: n/a, n/a, 0
This alien is locally naturalized in some northern regions, including parts of adjacent states to north and east of Ky. It has been reported from Ky. (Anderson 1924, Rogers 1941, FNA 24, W), but there have been misidentifications, and its occurrence here remains dubious (M). A verified coll. was made in FAYE (KY Agr. Sch.) during 1894, but probably from early planted trials of Gm. An old coll. named "nemoralis?" by C.W. Short (NY) appears to be autumnalis. A coll. by JC in 1990 from SHEL (BEREA) was redtermined as trivialis by JC soon afterwards, but SERNEC (2024) has still recorded "nemoralis" from the original label. P. nemoralis often appears similar to sylvestris but differs as follows (W): lemmas 3-veined with intermediate veins obscure (versus 5-veined with intermediate veins well developed)); ligule 0.2-1 (-1.5) mm long (versus ca. 1 mm).. It is also closely related to palustris but differs as follows (W): ligule 0.2-1 (-1.5) mm long, truncate (versus 2-5 mm, ovate-triangular), culms 4-8 dm tall; anthers 1.2-1.6 mm long; [section Stenopoa] ................................
