This was recently found on Wolf Island in HICK (EKY) by R. Jones and his class, and reported under the synonym I. turbinata Lag. (Clark et al. 2005). It may originate from Mexico, but has become scattered across the Coastal Plain of southeastern states in recent decades, sometimes as a contaminent in soybean seed (W). It has violet or lavender flowers with narrow, 3-7 cm long tubes, and also been cultivated as an ornamental ("lilacbell").
