This scrambling annual is the commonly cultivated watermelon. It does not seem to be persistent in the wild, but occasional plants do establish from discarded (or spat) seeds. Other common crop-plants in this family can be expected in similar contexts, but have rarely been reported (Chester 1992): Cucumis melo L. (canteloupe) and C. sativus L. (cucumber).
