This relative of minor occurs widely in cool temperate regions of the world. It is rarely recorded in southeastern states, and there is only one record from Ky. It appears closet o obscura but differs as follows (FNA 22, W): fronds flat; (versus often gibbous) with papillae that are mostly distinct on the midline on the upper surface (versus very distinct above the node and near the apex but not between node and apex); seeds with 3-60 indistinct ribs (versus 10-16).
