This occurs mostly in the Allegheny and Blue Ridge mountains, but with disjunct sites reported west to e. Ind., across the Ohio Rv. from JEFF and MEAD. Locklear (2011) has noted the correctness of ovata as the name for this species, rather than P. latifolia Michx.. P. ovata is close to triflora, and may be confused. In Ky. there is a record of Pr (addenda) from WARR, but no coll. has been located (M). BA's report from this region was based on misidentified triflora (M).
