This is restricted to southern Appalachian regions at upper elevations. In Ky. it is largely restricted to the Cumberland Mts. (especially Pine Mt.), where it mostly occurs along or near trails on ridges. T. Johnson (pers. comm.) has recently found it in the Jellico Mts. of WHIT to the west of Pine Mt.
