This southwestern relative of lancastriensis extends on dry sandy soils up the Mississippi Valley to se. Mo. and n. Miss. (K, FNA 23). It was reported from Ky. by Mears (1999; see also J), based on a coll. of M.J. & G.K. Fuller #272 (APSC, MUR, NCU) from FULT: 18 Aug 1968, "Highway 313 6.3 miles from Tenn-Ky line, heavily forested area, sandy soil". The coll. had been initially identified as refractus. The species remains unknown in Tenn. and rare in Ala. (K).
