This is a widespread weedy winter-annual in North America, especially on relatively infertile soils. It is easily overlooked and may well occur in all counties of Ky. Although present in North America as early as 1856, the first records from most central states were made during the 1940s (FNA 5). B appears to have provided the first record from Ky., based on her coll. from FAYE in the 1930s. Flowering in Ky. occurs mostly during Mar-Apr, but often as early as mid-Feb. (2019 in JEFF).
