Lamiaceae <Nepetoideae-Nepetinae> Agastache urticifolia
Agastache urticifolia (Benth.) Kuntze
ALI: W HAB: n/a, n/a, n/a, n/a ABU: n/a, n/a, 0
This species of western North American is closely related to A. foeniculum (Pursh) Kuntze of the northern Great Plains. The latter is reportedly naturalized at scattered locations in the east (W). It was reported from Ky. by Lint & Epling (1945); see also K. However, that report was based on an old coll. at GH that has been redetermined as urticifolia, presumably from cultivation: by Mary Bunker (ex herb. Mary E. Gilbreth), "Shelbyville" [SHEL], 1876. Both of these species (known as "anise hyssop") have a pleasant sweet aromatic flavor, and contain diverse flavonoids and terpenoids (Fuentes-Granadas et al. 1998). They have had much medicinal and culinary use.
