This is an abundant weed in more southeastern states, but just an uncommon waif in Ky. The mapped records here generally come from wild contexts. In addition, the species has been observed occasionally in horticultural situations where it has been introduced with imported potted plants. See also note under compositifolium, which is closely related (2n = 20 in both). Without mature flowers, these filifolious plants have a superficial resemblance to some species of Artemisia (such as A. dracunculus L.) or even some Amaranthaceae (sensu lato). Both species have upper leaves undivided and narrowly linear; but lower leaves are often ternate or (especially in compositifolia) pinnately divided.
