This alien annual halophyte first appears in North America during the 1890s, and it has spread along salted highways into western and northern regions of North America during recent decades (FNA 5, W and citations),. It was first recorded in Ky. during 2016, on Tate's Creek Road below the New Circle Road overpass in FAYE (JC for BEREA). It appears similar to rubra but has smaller seeds (0.4-0.6 mm long versus 0.8-1.1 mm), with distinctive wavy scultering and marginal papillae (versus just marginal wings), and more fleshy leaves.
