This is widely scattered on seasonally damp open ground, especially along shores of larger rivers or adjacent wetlands and fields. The related species (or subspecies), D. uninervia (J. Presl) Parodi and D. acuminata Nash are also expected. All three taxa are widespread weeds on damp base-rich soils in warmer regions of the Americas. They extend north through much of the U.S.A, especially in drier central states. See Peterson et al. (2012) for recent revision of Leptochloa sensu lato.
