This is an occasionally escaped ornamental plant, but perhaps not truly naturalized; there are records from LIVI and PIKE (M). It has an ancient history of cultivation (FNA 4), with considerable variation (2n = 36 and 72); the more compoact showy plants are known as var. cristata (L.) Kuntze.
