Gratiola floridana Nutt.

This occurs mostly on the Coastal Plain of n. Flo., s. Ala. and s. Ga., but it also extends north along the Ridge-and-Valley and Cumberland Plateau to se. Tenn. (K). The only possible record from Ky. is a coll. from WHIT (APSC, EKY): R. Jones #10853, 18 May 2012, "331 Forego Trail... in wetlands around Tattersall Lake". However, the initial identification as floridana needs to be checked. Based on Estes (2008), FNA 17 and W, florida differs from neglecta and allies (quatermanii, graniticola) as follows: flowers 13-25 mm long (versus 5-14 mm), adaxial [?] surface of the corolla lobes pilose (versus glabrous); proximal fruiting pedicels (20) 23-43 (55) mm long (versus (5)12-25(37) mm); seeds 0.6-0.9 mm long (versus 0.3-0.7 mm);, trichomes [throughout?] with stalks approximately equaling or shorter than the glandular head (versus at least 50% longer); leaves oval or oblanceolate with L/W mostly 2.5-5 (versus elliptic, rhombic-lanceolate or lanceolate to oblanceolate with L/W mostly 3.5-9.5), glabrous (versus glandular-puberulent, glabrate or glabrous). Although no obvious hybrids have been documented, some specimens have been difficult to differentiate.
