This has spread in disturbed sites across east-central states during recent decades (FNA 8; W). Earliest records are as follows (SERNEC): N.Y. 1922; Lou. 1963; W.Va. 1966; Ark. 1997; Md. 1993; Tenn. 2013; Va. 2017. In Ky. it was first discovered during 2025 by V.Voelker (NP; naturalist.org/ observations/ 280267543): "Collected on Pine Mtn [BELL] along a cell tower road, only one patch seen. I assume this was maybe cultivated at one of the nearby old homesites at some time, not sure if it is necessarily aggressive? " The species is similar to nummularia in its rsubotund keaves and trailing habit, rooting at nodes. It differs as follows (W): flowers 5-7 mm across (versus 16-24 mm); sepals about as long as the petals (versus about half as long); stem pilose (versus glabrous).
