Ranunculaceae <Ranunculeae> Ranunculus <Auricomus> harveyi
Ranunculus harveyi (Gray) Britt.
ALI: no HAB: 7,5,11, n/a, D, 2 ABU: g10, s3, -2
This is closely related to micranthus, and just recently identified in the state (D. Estes at APSC): R.C. Clark #24190, 15 Apr 1999; CLIN, deciduous woods on S-facing slope on knob along Ky. Hwy. 704 above jct. with Chowning Road. There was also a nearby coll. from the same day in CUMB: R.C. Clark #24254: ca. 0.25 mi. w. of Ky. hwy. 704; ca. 1 mi. s. of Adair-Cumberland county line; Quercus-Juniperus-Carya woods near top of shale knob. The report from BALL (Thompson & Thompson 2016) appears to be based on misidentified micranthus. R. harveyi occurs mostly in relatively dry habitats of the Ozark region, but has disjunctions east to n. Ala, e. Tenn. (Ch), s. Ill. (ML) and s. Ind. (Floyd Co. according to Natural Heritage Database). R. harveyi differs in its longer petals (ca. 4-8 mm versus 2-3.5 mm), much exceeding sepals (versus about equalling); also, uncleft basal leaves are subcordate to cordate (versus cuneate to subcordate), rarely mixed with cleft ones (versus often mixed).
