This widespread western species has recently spread to southeastern states, especially in mowed lawns (W). It has been documented during 2022 in CALL by "Gage Barnes", using iNaturalist and verified by R. Abbott (pers. comm.). Montia differs from Claytonia as follows (FNA 4, W): stems with 3 or more leaves, opposite or alternate (versus 2, opposite, sometimes connate); petals 1-6 mm long (versus 6-14 mm). M .linearis has alternate leaves.
