This southeastern and Central American species is known from Tenn. within 50 miles of the state line (Ch), and it has been expected in Ky. It is in a distinct subgroup of the genus (FNA 23; W). Compared to closest relatives (globularis, harveyi etc.), achene surfaces are smooth (versus transversely ridged, rugose, or honeycombed-reticulate).
