Poaceae <Paniceae> Coleataenia [Panicum* <Agrostoides>] pulchra (stipitata, P. rigidulum var. elongatum*)
Coleataenia pulchra (F.Dietr.) Mabb. & LeBlond
ALI: no HAB: 2,9, n/a, C, 5 ABU: g9, s8, -2
Mapping is tentative; distinction from typical rigidulum needs further study. C. pulchra is reported to have a more eastern range, concentrated on the Piedmont and other lowlands around the Appalachians, but there is much overlap and no clear difference in habitat (FNA 25, W). In addition to its more elongated mature spikelets (ca. 2.4-2.8 x 0.3-0.6 mm versus 1.6-2.5 x 0.4-0.7 mm), often with fertile lemma more conspicuously stipitate. C. pulchra also tends to be more robust and the inflorescences narrower, with more ascending branches and more consistently purple-tinged.
