This popular ornamental shrub from southern Europe is widely planted across North America but rarely escapes, and perhaps only as vegetative growth from discarded plants or dumped cuttings (W). There are no records of naturalization from Ky. The species has been impacted locally by a new fungal disease, "boxwood blight" (Ward Gauthier et al. 2016).
