This is widely scattered on base-rich soils across North America, but most common in the Great Plains and generally rare to absent east of the Mississippi (K). It appears to be native along sandy banks of the Mississippi Rv. in BALL (DHL), where collected by R. Athey and others along Kelly Branch Road during 1970-83 (SERNEC). It has been rediscovered at that locality in 2020-25 by V. Voelker (pers. comm. at NP). A reported 2003 coll. near a railroad by M. Whitson in NICH (KNK) was based on misidentified nyctaginea (V.Voelker, pers. comm.at NP). There are no other records from the state.
