This widespread weed on tropical to warm temperate region may have originated in the Neotropics. Although apparently native to the southeastern Coastal Plain, it has been recorded within the Ohio Valley (Ky., Ill, Ind., Tenn.) only after 1990 (SERNEC). For Ky., there are initial reports from TRIM in 2020 (JEF), JESS and elsewhere in 2023 (P. Adanick, pers. comm.), but herbarium colls. have not yet been accessed and verified.
