This first records of this showy annual in Ky. were made during the 1980s. It has increased in recent decades, partly due to plantings for displays along roads and then subsequent escapes. It is related to C. montana L., a perennial from European mountains with many popular cultivars in flower gardens (FNA 19), which has not naturalized in Ky.
