Marrubium vulgare L.
ALI: EU HAB: H-10, ::?, E, 6 ABU: n/a, n/a, 4
This old medicinal herb ("horehound") is locally persistent in midwestern and northeastern states, but it is much more abundant in western North America (K; iNaturalist.org). In Wind Cave National Park of S.Dak., Gastineau (2012) found that: "M. vulgare was rarely found off of prairie dog towns and then only in other disturbed areas such as bison trails or tree falls... [also] appears to be effectively dispersed through bison epizoochory.". Most Ky. records (excluding cultivated plants) date from 1910 to 1970, and the species is now unknown in the wild. Presumably it was more successful before the spread of Festuca arundinacea; and it may have been associated with sheep, now largely gone from the state.
