Lamiaceae <Lamioideae> Stachys cordata (riddellii, "nuttallii")
Stachys cordata Riddell
ALI: no HAB: 7,6,9?, n/a, C?, 3? ABU: g6?, s4?, -2
Mapping remains tentative, due to frequent confusuon with nuttalii; see notes under that name. S. cordata is known mostly from mesic woodlands of east-central states, centered in the upper Ohio Rv. watershed, in Ind., Ohio, W.Va., Ky. and Va. (Nelson 2008; and pers. comm.). Both cordata and nuttalii produce tubers (like S. floridana Shuttlew. ex Benth.), unlike hispida and tenuifolia. Following J. Nelson et al. in W, cordata is distinguished from nuttallii as follows: calyx lobes deltoid (versus deltoid-lanceolate), glandular to eglandular (versus strongly glandular); leaves broadly rounded with a cordate base and crenulate margins (versus "various").
