In Ky. this largely southern Appalachian species is known only from a coll. of S. Price (MO), made ca. 1900 in EDMO or WARR (Browne 1962; M). It is also expected in xeric woods and scrub further east, but plants would be generally dependent on fire (W). There is only one other species in the genus, which itself can be considered the only genus in Xerophyllaceae, another family segregated from Liliaceae sensu lato; 2n = 30 (W; and citations).
