This is widespread in eastern states, especially on or near the coast, but not in the northeast. It tends to occur in more riparian habitats than moscheutos, especially along larger rivers and sloughs. Compared to moscheutos (W), stems and leaves are glabrous (versus partially pubescent); upper leaves are usually hastate (versus usually unlobed); petals are pink or white with a purplish base (versus usually white or creamy with purple or red base).
