Isely & Peabody (1984; Isely 1990) could find no wild plants of kelseyi. They suggested that it may have horticultural origin from hybridization of pseudoacacia with fertilis; all three taxa are diploids (2n = 20). This hybrid may be represented by colls. from an old homesite in LYON ("kelseyi" at APSC) and from behind the high school in PERR ("hispida" at EKY). A coll. of kesleyi from HARL was reported by B (Braun #450) but cannot be located. Also, Hinkle (1975) reported kelseyi from BELL (check TENN). Some other reports from Ky. may have been based on misidentified boyntonii (Isely & Peabody 1984).
