Commelina erecta L. var. erecta
ALI: no HAB: f-12,11,10, ::, C, 4? ABU: g9, s6?, -3
This variable perennial (2n = 56-120) is cespitose, sometimes with decumbent stems that may root at nodes (FNA 22). It ranges from eastern states south to tropical regions of Central America and West Africa. It occurs in a wide range of open habitats, from riverbanks to rock outcrops, usually on well-drained sandy or gravelly soils. Most colls. need to be rechecked for var. angustifolia (see notes under that name). Without flowers, erecta can still be distinguished from congeners in Ky. due to the rounded, more or less spreading auricles on its leaf sheaths. See also notes under diffusa.
