This northern species occurs in prairies and fields on sandy soil, mostly in the upper midwest, with disjunct occurrences east to New Jersey and eastern New York.The few colls. from Ky. need to be rechecked: Davies 1955 (coll. not located), Dietrich & Wagner 1988 (coll. at DS = California Academy of Sciences), Campbell et al. 1992 (depauperate coll. at MDKY).
