Caprifoliaceae Lonicera <Caprifolum> sempervirens {yellow form}
Lonicera sempervirens L. [yellow flowered form]
ALI: no HAB: 8,12?, n/a, D?, 4 ABU: g7?, s3?, -3
Taxonomic status of these plants remains uncertain. Flowers differ from typical sempervirens in their orange-yellow color; stamens remain orange without darkening tendency; and corolla lobes may be generally shorter or less spreading than typical sempervirens. It is possible that these plants deserve taxonomic recognition, but further analysis is needed. The name "forma flava Regel" may be applied, but should not be confused with L. flava Sims; see notes under that species. The name "forma sulphurea" has also been claimed for such plants, but without a formal description; and a cultivar name "John Clayton" refers to plants discovered in a church yard of Virginia (missouribotanicalgarden.org). These plants have been widely cultivated in eastern states. An apparently wild plant from a wild thicket near Knob Lick of BOYL flowers profusely during late Apr to May and continues through the summer, to as late as early Nov (2021), when cultivated in FAYE. Similar plants have been found on similar topography in native woodland at Iroquois Park in JEFF (first recorded by P.A. Davies, 28Apr1945, DHL at APSC). And N. Crawford (pers. comm.) has recently discovered a plant in native woodland at Mahr Park in HOPK.
