This dwarf "Nanking cherry" with tomentose shoots is widely cultivated, occasionally persists and spreads by seed in cool temperate regions of North America (K, W; Widrlechner et al. 2004; http://michiganflora.net/home.aspx). It has been recently observed on a relatively wild roadside in HART (Rowletts-Cave Spring Rd at ca. 37.2430 -85.9044), about 150 m from a house. Whether this species is spreading by seed here remains unclear. Plants of this species are only ca. 1-2 m tall; leaves are ca. 3-5 cm long; flowers have petals ca. 8-13 mm long, on pedicels only 0-2 mm long; fruits are ca. 5-12 mm in diameter, bright red and slightly tart.
