This small annual is native to southcentral states (especially Tex., La., Okl and Ark), but it appears to have been spreading rapidly into more eastern states during recent decades, especially on lawns and golfcourses in Ala. and Tenn. (K, W). D. Estes and M. Briock (pers. comm.) have recently discovered the species on roadsides in several western counties, mostly in the western Pennyrhile region (APSC); the earliest record was in 2017.
