This subaquatic species is widespread in warmer American regions, and appears to have spread north during recent decades, especially in the midwest. The earliest dates for records in these more northern states may be as follows: Kans. 1968; Ohio 1971; Ill. 1975; Tenn. 1988; Mo. 2000; Minn. 2007; Mich. 2011 (SERNEC). In Ky. it was first collected during the 2000s from GRAV (EKY) and HEND by D. White (KSNPC) and E. Hartowicz; see also Clark et al. (2005). It has also been found since 2020 in HOPK (V. Voelker, pers. comm.), SIMP and TODD (APSC; M. Brock, pers. comm.).
