This is a relatively slender southwestern segregate of compositus that is treated as a variety by some authors (FNA 25). Colls. from roadsides in GALL (KNK and perhaps adjacent BOON) are referable to drummondii or perhaps the more rhizomatous S. macer (Trin.) A.S. Hitchc. (= S. compositus var. m.). There are no other records from Ky. for either taxon. But drummondii has also been reported from c. Tenn. and s. Ohio (K).
