This is distributed mostly on the Gulf and Atlantic Coastal Plains, and around the Great Lakes. Although absent from most of the southern Appalachians (W), it does occurs locally on the Cumberland Plateau (see also Ch) and in the Cumberland Mountains (but not found by B). L. minor grows on sandy soils in open pine woods or their disturbed remnants. It has probably been confused occasionally with racemulosa and colls. under the latter name should be rechecked.
